Our Studs

Conn

(Shoobox Kubla Khan of Xi-Gua)

Conn is named after the 2nd-century Irish king Conn of the Hundred Battles. Bred by Shoobox Cattery in southern California, Conn comes to us from Permes Cattery in Washington state, where his sire was bred. He is a traditional seal point carrying blue and chocolate factors, siring kittens of all four colors. He also carries the recessive long-haired factors and can sire long-haired kittens if his mate carries the same genes. Our long-haired young stud Colum Cille is his son.

Hugh

(Xi-Gua Red Hugh O Donnell)

Red Hugh is named for the the 17th-century Irish hero prince Aodh Ruadh O Domhnaill . He is a classic son of Declan's out of Xi-Gua Fancy. Hugh is a chocolate point carrying blue factors and sires kittens of all four colors. It is hard to get an elegant photo of him, because he is always wanting to play and be cute.

Niall

(say "Neil")

(Xi-Gua Niall Naoigiallach)

Niall is named for the 4th-century Irish High King Niall of the Nine Hostages, a contemporary of St. Patrick. He is a very traditional son of Conn and Fiona. Niall is a blue point carrying no other colors, so he sires only seal points and blue points. He is extraordinarily sweet-tempered with both humans and cats, and is very gentle with his mates. In late 2012, we expect to replace him with a young blue point male of our breeding who carries chocolate factors and can sire kittens of all four colors. At that time, Niall will be available to go to a different home as a breeding cat or as a pet.

Finn

(Larami's Finn McCool of Xi-Gua)

Finn is named for the legendary Irish hero of the 2nd-century Fenian cycle, Fionn MacCumhail. Like his sister Moira, Finn comes to us from Larami Cattery in British Columbia. He is a traditional lilac point and can sire kittens of all four colors. Carrying only recessive color factors, lilac points can be used to "bring out" any recessive colors carried by a seal point mate, so Finn is very valuable to our breeding program..

Colum

(say "COL-umn KILL-ya")

(Xi-Gua Colum Cille)

Colum, out of guest queen Miss Fiona by our traditional stud Conn, is named for St. Columba, the 6th-century Irish missionary who founded a monastic community on the island of Iona off the west coast of Scotland. Columba is a Latin form of the Gaelic name Colum Cille, which means "Dove of the Church". We thought it appropriate, not only because of his dove-colored coat, but in reference to his very sweet and calm termperament. He is a traditional long-haired or Balinese lilac point and sires kittens of all four colors. If his mate carries the recessive gene for long hair, he can also produce long-haired Siamese like himself.

Former Studs

Turlough

(say "TOOR-lock")

(Xi-Gua Turlough O Carolan)

This is Turlough, named for the early 18th-century Irish harper. The Gaelic form of his name means "instigator". He is the son of Sheila and WildRose Ryan. Unfortunately, Turlough proved to be a bit too much of an instigator! He was temperamentally unsuited to stud work, miserable when shut away from human companions, so we decided to retire him in the spring of 2010. Turlough has been neutered and placed in a private home as a pet.

Declan

(Koblizek Deacon Blue of Xi-Gua)

We called this handsome fellow Declan, after the 5th-century Irish saint Declan of Ardmore. He came to us from Koblizek Siamese in Wisconsin. A show-style Siamese with championship bloodlines, he sired classic kittens when mated with our traditional girls. Declan was a homozygous chocolate point, siring seal point and chocolate point kittens. He was retired on January 1, 2011, and is now no longer with us, but his gentle temperament and great beauty are carried on in his kittens that we kept for breeding: his daughter Una Donn and his son Red Hugh O Donnell.

Ryan

(WildRose Ryan of Xi-Gua)

This is Ryan, Xi-Gua's foundation sire, who came to us from Desert Rose (WildRose) Cattery in New Mexico. Sadly, Ryan is no longer with us, but his assertive character and unique personality are remembered by all who knew him. Ryan's elegant classic-style features (especially the long legs and tail inherited from his show-style dam, Thaibok SonoraRain) are evident in his son Turlough and his daughter Fiona, both from his final litter, and in many of his grandkits as well.
